NOCO helps you take care of your air conditioning system

ac service new yorkSummer is giving way to fall here in Western New York. However, the weather remains warm so your home’s air conditioning system still needs to run so your home stays cool and comfortable.

By taking care of your air conditioning system today, you can help it run better tomorrow. In addition to saving money on energy bills, this will also prevent having to spend extra down the road on costly repairs.

Here are a few tips so you can keep your home comfortable until chillier weather arrives.

Cut back on your air conditioning usage

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably had your air conditioner running almost constantly this summer. That’s especially true if you work remotely. This is the time to put a stop to around-the-clock air conditioning usage and give your air conditioning system a break. Here are some ways you can do so without compromising comfort levels.

Turn up the thermostat setting. By programming your thermostat to 78 degrees instead of 74, your air conditioning will run less often, but you likely won’t feel much of a difference in comfort.

Open the windows. With temperatures falling, you can get natural cooling by opening the windows and letting air circulate in your home.

Use your ceiling fans. By circulating the air, you may be able to keep cool without needing to turn on the air conditioning.

Take care of the outside unit

There may be obstructions on or around the A/C unit that block airflow and cause damage to the unit, such as grass clippings from mowing the lawn, branches and twigs blown about during storms, already fallen leaves, and weeds sprouting. Clear anything off the unit and create a clear space around it.

Change the air filter

If you’ve been using the same air filter all summer and haven’t changed it, now is the time to do so. Air filters should not be used for more than three months. If you have pets or someone in your home has allergies, asthma, or respiratory problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), they should be changed more frequently.
